SYDNEY, May 9 (Xinhua) -- A man has shoved a large cream pie into Qantas chief executive Alan Joyce's face, during a business breakfast on Tuesday in Australia.

The incident occurred while Joyce was delivering a keynote address at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in the Western Australia State Capital, Perth.

The Qantas chief has been speaking for only a few minutes when a man who appeared to be in his early seventies stunned the audience of 500 by slamming a pie into his face.

At the time, the CEO of Australia's national carrier has been speaking about recently announced direct flights from Perth to London.

Joyce's face and suit were covered in cream.

"I don't know what that was about," Joyce told the audience, before excusing himself to clean himself up.

Upon removing most of the cream and returning to the stage, Joyce continued his speech.

Security staff at the hotel detained the pie-thrower until police arrived to arrest him.

West Australian police say it is highly likely that charges will be made.

It's unknown what prompted the pie attack and Australian social media users are continuing to speculate what kind of pie was used.
