SYDNEY, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The Australian dollar is higher against the greenback on Monday, with the U.S. currency falling despite receiving positive figures around jobs growth.

At the Asian market open 07:00 (AEST), the local unit was trading at 74.13 U.S. cents, up from 73.86 on Monday.

"The US dollar index closed 0.2% lower, at a level last seen in November," Westpac chief market strategist Imre Speizer said in a note to investors.

But with concern around faltering commodity prices, he believes there is a chance it may just be a "one day wonder," Speizer said.

At 09:40 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 74.16 U.S. cents.
