Pedrosa on pole for Spanish Moto GP

MADRID, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda team will be on the pole position for Sundaym's Red Bull Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

Pedrosa finished 49 milliseconds ahead of his teammate Marc Marquez in the final qualifying session on Saturday afternoon to book his first pole since the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang in 2015.

Cal Crutchlow (LCR Honda) completed the front row to give Honda the top-three placings ahead of Mavarick Vinales (Movistar Yamaha), who will start from the second row of the grid ahead of Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) and Johann Zarco (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) in sixth.

There are 14 Moto GP world titles on the third row of the grid, where Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha is seventh ahead of Jorge Lorenzo (Ducati) and with five Spaniards among the first nine on the grid, the home fans will be expecting to see a Spanish triumph when the race gets under way on Sunday.
