YANGON, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar government has warned of taking action against attempts to spread rumors widely on social media about the president and the state counselor based on false news, designed to cause political instability in the country.

A press release of the Ministry of the State Counselor's Office, released late Thursday, warned the public not to be deceived by fabricated news and rumors deliberately disseminated to cause confusion.

"It has been found that these acts are being done intentionally to cause political instability during the tenure of the incumbent government which took office in accordance with the election result of the 2015 multi-party democracy election, and to create a situation among the people to live in fear and anxiety due to the spread of the rumors," the release said.

The release called for vigilance not to fall easily for the fabricated news and rumors which are being circulated by destructive elements at this time of great importance when the government has been making efforts for national reconciliation and democratic transformation as part of the peace process.
