CARACAS, April 27 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan authorities have arrested a police officer suspected in the killing of a young man during anti-government protests earlier this week, the public prosecutor's office said on Thursday.
Officer Gerson Quintero, 36, was to be charged in the coming hours over the death of Christian Ochoa, 22, who was shot during protests in northern Carabobo state.
According to the preliminary report, Ochoa left "his home in the district of Miguel Pena on April 24, as a group of people were protesting nearby."
"Later, the youth received several gunshots, and was immediately taken (to hospital) where he died," the report said.
Venezuela has been racked by violent anti-government protests by right-wing opposition groups opposed to the socialist government of President Nicolas Maduro, leaving some 29 people dead.
