BRUSSELS, April 27 (Xinhua) -- European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Thursday met George Soros, founder of Central European University (CEU), over the dispute with Hungary.

During the meeting, Soros briefed Juncker about the latest developments of the case regarding CEU, the main issue of his visit, according to a New Europe report.

Juncker told Soros that the Commission had sent a letter of formal notice to Hungary, in a legal action, about the education law, according to the report.

Earlier, Hungarian President Janos Ader ratified a new regulation that demands an international treaty to be signed between Hungary and the home country of a foreign university that operates in Hungary.

Under the rules, the foreign university operating in Hungary also needs to have accredited courses in its home country, which CEU does not have.

CEU was founded in 1991 and based first in Prague and later in Budapest. It delivers both American and Hungarian diplomas. It currently has approximately 1,400 students and 370 faculty members from more than 130 countries and regions.
