HOUSTON, April 25 (Xinhua) -- A pilot was killed on Tuesday after his small plane crashed near Huntsville, a city in the eastern part of U.S. state of Texas.

The twin-engine Cessna 421, which took off from a Houston Regional Airport, struck trees and caught fire before crashing into a pond near Huntsville around 10:30 a.m. local time, according to Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The plane was found upside down in the water and the body of the pilot was discovered hours later by divers from the crash site.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also confirmed the accident, saying that the pilot reported a possible oil problem and a fire before the plane's crash.

The real cause of the plane's crash is under investigation.
