ISLAMABAD, April 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and eight others injured when a passenger van hit a landmine in Pakistan's northwestern tribal area of Kurram Agency on Tuesday, the state TV reported.
Pakistan Television reported that those killed included women and kids, while the injured people included two census workers who were on their way to conduct population census in the agency.
Local authorities said the van ran over an anti-tank mine on the roadside when it was travelling in Gudar area of Kurram Agency, a semi-autonomous tribal area located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital from where the seriously wounded victims had been airlifted to hospitals in Peshawar, the capital city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Inter-Services Public Relations, the mouthpiece of the Pakistani army, said in a statement that the military has provided an MI-17 helicopter to shift the wounded people to the military hospital in Peshawar.
Security forces cordoned off the area for investigations.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
