CARACAS, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez on Saturday called for "true and accessible" global media coverage of the recent situation in the country.

Venezuela is facing a "very aggressive global media campaign," Rodriguez said, calling for a "responsible management of information."

The minister made the remarks after a meeting with foreign journalists held here aimed at stressing the media's responsibility in safeguarding stability and peace.

Ernesto Villegas, Venezuelan minister of communication and information, said certain sectors seek to create an "international opinion" to bring about a coup d'etat in the country, but he noted this would not lead to "the overthrow of the government."

Since April 1, Venezuela has seen intense protests by both government and opposition supporters in Caracas and across the country, which have claimed at least 15 lives.
