Kenya's bourse turnover flat amid rise in benchmark index

NAIROBI, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Equity turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) Thursday remained flat at 7.2 million U.S. dollars as 23 million shares were traded, down from 25 million in previous session.

However, the NSE 20 Share Index was up 19.55 points to stand at 3,149.33 boosted by rise in prices of selected top stocks that included Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Equity Bank.

KCB was the day's top traded stock, moving 9.2 million shares after going up 2.3 percent to hit a new high of 0.34 dollars.

Safaricom came in second with 8.6 million shares at unchanged price of 0.19 dollars. Wednesday, the telecom was the top trader with 13 million shares.

At the third spot was Cooperative Bank after moving 1.6 million shares at a declined price of 0.13 dollars.

Equity Bank and Athi River Mining followed in the fourth and fifth spots respectively after trading 663,400 and 517,400, a rise of 0.3 percent and 3.4 percent.

The All Share Index (NASI) shed 0.03 points to stand at 133.78 while the NSE 25 Share Index was up 3.93 points to stand at 3,536.93.

The bond market had securities worth 13 million dollars transacted compared to 9 million dollars registered the previous session. Enditem
