HOHHOT, April 12 (Xinhua)-- A farmer in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is demanding that the state pay him 388,891.5 yuan (about 56,410 U.S. dollars) in compensation after he was acquitted of unlicensed corn trading during a retrial.
Wang Lijun submitted the applications to a court and public security bureau in Linhe District, Bayan Nur City, on Monday. The compensation is for infringement of his personal rights, mental anguish and economic losses due to the overturned conviction.
In the initial verdict in April 2016, Linhe district court sentenced Wang to a suspended one-year prison term with a fine of 20,000 yuan, after he was found guilty of trading grain without a license.
The Supreme People's Court ordered that the case should be reheard in December. In February, Bayan Nur City Intermediate People's Court revoked the verdict, saying Wang had not severely damaged market order.
Previously, China required businesses to acquire licenses to purchase grain. A rule on the practice last year, however, canceled the requirement.
