MADRID, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Spanish riot police were forced to intervene and made a series of arrests after incidents involving followers of Leicester City football club in the center of Madrid on Tuesday night.

The Leicester fans are in Madrid for Wednesday night's Champions League game against Atletico Madrid, but a group of around 70 provoked an incident in the Spanish capital's Plaza Mayor at around 21.30 hours, according to police sources.

The group had been drinking and causing a disturbance provoking a charge by members of the Spanish National Police.

The Leicester fans responded by throwing bottles at the police and the incident ended with eight arrests and five people suffering minor injuries.

Meanwhile two bars in the square have denounced damage caused by the supporters, while a video posted in the website of sports paper Diario AS also showed a group of supposed Leicester fans robbing from the bar in the high-speed AVE train which was taking them to Madrid.
