SYDNEY, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The island of New Caledonia is recovering Tuesday, after Cyclone Cook tore through the region on Sunday.

The islands were prepared for more dangerous conditions Monday, however all weather warnings were lifted as the category three storm system dissipated.

No fatalities have been reported, however four people were taken to hospital for injuries.

The 350mm of rain that fell in just 24 hours caused extensive flooding on the archipelago and it is expected that damage to banana and papaya crops will hurt the industry.

Authorities have also warned residents to boil water before drinking it, as it may be contaminated.
