TOKYO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed on Thursday morning as some investors sought out bargains as the week draws to a close and remained cautious about U.S. President Donald Trump's fiscal policies.
Others were in a circumspect mood as the head of a scandal-hit school operator gave testimony in the Diet and may implicate senior politicians
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 26.84 points, or 0.14 percent, from Wednesday to 19,068.22.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 0.91 points, or 0.06 percent, at 1,529.29.
Notable issues that advanced by the morning break comprised oil and coal product and mining issues. Those that retreated were led by bank and rubber product shares.
