Tokyo shares close sharply lower on concerns over implementation of Trump policy

TOKYO, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares closed sharply lower on Wednesday, with Nikkei stock index dropping over 2 percent to a six-week low on prevailing concerns over implementation of U.S. President Donald Trump's economic policies.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 414.50 points, or 2.13 percent, from Tuesday at 19,041.38, its lowest close since Feb. 9.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 33.22 points, or 2.12 percent, lower at 1,530.20.

Decliners were led by insurance, securities and marine transportation issues.

The day's turnover was around 2,658.3 billion yen (23.80 billion U.S. dollars).
