BUCHAREST, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Romania's main opposition Liberals on Monday asked the prime minister, the justice minister and also the speaker of the Deputies Chamber to resign, as they "disgruntled an entire Romania".
They must resign, said Raluca Turcan, interim chair of the National Liberal Party, the largest opposition party in the parliament.
Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu backed down and abrogated the ordinance, but he did not say anything about taking responsibility for the mistake, Turcan said.
Meanwhile, the nonconfidence motion against the government move to amending the Criminal Code was read out in the Parliament, although the government had already annulled the relevant amendments.
Lawmakers of the National Liberal Party and the Save Romania Union on Feb. 1 lodged the nonconfidence motion against the coalition government.
The vote upon the motion is scheduled for Wednesday, with slim chances to get past, since the ruling parties hold an absolute majority in the parliament.
The cabinet led by Grindeanu adopted an emergency ordinance on amending Criminal Codes on Jan. 31, which has redefined, and partially decriminalized abuse of office offenses.
The authorities had to annul the ordinance on Sunday amid mass protests, with the opposition and protesters complaining that the changes would likely prevent some politicians charged with crimes from being punished.
