NEW YORK, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Heavy fire broke out at New York University Langone Medical Center in midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, sending thick smoke up in the air visible several kilometers away.
The two-Alarm fire began on the fifth floor of the NYU Medical Center on First Avenue around noon, according to local fire department. The structure was previously going through renovations.
Firefighters were sent to the scene after a 911 call was made at 12:03 p.m., said the New York Fire Department.
The fire was currently brought under control. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
