BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Coast Guard's ships have just arrived at the site of Guo Chuan's trimaran and will soon use a helicopter to drop rescuers onboard to look for the sailor, Guo's shore team said on Thursday.
Guo was last heard just after 15:00 Tuesday Beijing time when his trimaran sailed 900 nautical miles off the west of Hawaii, his team said.
A search aircraft, sent from Honolulu, found a sail in the water, broken off the vessel, but didn't see Guo on the deck. All attempts to contact the sailor have failed.
Guo was trying to set a solo non-stop trans-Pacific world record from San Francisco to Shanghai.
