HANOI, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rain caused two cargo ships to sink in Vietnam's central Quang Binh province on Saturday, leaving six sailors missing, the country's Coastal Information System said.
The downpour and strong winds broke anchors of five clinker-carrying ships, making them drift on the sea, and then sank two of them on Saturday noon, causing 13 sailors to fall into the sea, the agency said.
By Saturday afternoon, seven sailors had been saved, and six others were still missing.
Heavy rain and fierce winds in Vietnam's central region over the past three days have lead to the death of five people with 12 others injured. Over 30,000 houses in Quang Binh and Ha Tinh province were submerged deeply in water.
Nearly 10 sections of National Road No. 1 and Ho Chi Minh City Road running through Quang Binh have been immersed deeply in water, interrupting road and rail transport.
Natural disasters killed or left 125 people missing, injured 266 others, and caused property losses of some 10,500 billion Vietnamese dong (470.8 million U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of 2016, said Vietnam's General Statistics Office.
