BRUSSELS, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- An explosion occurred early Monday outside the National Institute of Forensic and Criminology (NCIC) of Belgium, based in Brussels, with no casualties reported.

The cause of the explosion remains unknown, but the case is by no means accidental, Belgian newspaper Le Soir quoted a spokesperson of federal prosecutor's office as saying.

Belgian broadcaster RTBF said a car smashed fences lines to force its way into the site shortly after 2:00 a.m.(0000 GMT) and before the explosion.

A fire broke out and was later put under control. There have been no casualties so far, said Pierre Meys, spokesman of the Brussels fire brigade.

Police have sealed off the the area of the incident. A Xinhua reporter saw staff with protective clothing working on the site.

The criminology institute assists and advises the judicial authorities in their investigations.

BRUSSELS, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- An explosion occurred early Monday outside the National Institute of Forensic and Criminology (NCIC) of Belgium, based in Brussels, with no casualties reported.
