Sanjiangyuan national park to create nearly 17,000 jobs

XINING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- A national park planned in the Sanjiangyuan area, to protect the headwaters of the Yangtze, Yellow, and Lancang (Mekong) rivers, will establish nearly 17,000 jobs for locals.

According to the Finance Department of Qinghai Province on Wednesday, a total of 360 million yuan (about 54.3 million U.S. dollars) has been allocated for jobs to be created for local households since June.

The Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve was established in northwest China's Qinghai in 2000, but a meeting of the Central Leading Group for Reform at the end of 2015 decided that it should be turned into a national park managed by the central government.

The Sanjiangyuan National Park will cover 123,100 square kilometers and is expected to be completed in 2020.

There will be few visible barriers in the park other than a few signs to separate buffer zones and core conservation areas.

The park will also be rich in wildlife, including endangered species such as the Tibetan antelope and the snow leopard.
