HO CHI MINH CITY, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam experienced 72 serious food poisoning cases which affected 2,411 people, of whom six died, from January to July, while the respective figures were 79, 2,548 and 16 in the same period last year, its Preventive Medicine Department said Friday.
In July, 224 people in Vietnam were involved in 19 food poisoning cases which claimed two lives. The country saw 20 food poisoning cases which affected 342 people, including three fatalities in July 2015.
In the January-July period, Vietnam detected 18,600 foot-and-mouth disease patients, 44,900 dengue fever cases, including 14 fatalities, and 61 suspected cases of diphtheria, including three deaths, said the department.
Vietnam detected 982 HIV carriers in July, raising the total to 228,900, of whom 86,300 have become AIDS patients. To date, 87,900 people in the country have died of AIDS-related causes.
