NEW DELHI, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Indian security forces Tuesday claimed to have eliminated four suspected Pakistani terrorists and caught one alive during a gunbattle in Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"The operation took place near the Line of Control in Indian-controlled Kashmir's Kupwara district. The security forces surrounded the Naugam sector after a tip-off of terrorists hiding there and in the ensuing encounter, four intruders were gunned down and one caught alive," a senior official said.

All the four terrorists had snaked into this country from across the border, the official said, on condition of anonymity. "A search operation is underway in the area to look for more terrorists who could have been there," he added.

The Indian government has hailed the nabbing of the suspected Pakistani terrorist. "It's a big achievement to catch a terrorist alive. The truth of Pakistan will come to the fore," said junior Home Minister Kiren Rijiju.

India claims that terrorists from Pakistan often sneak into its territory to carry out attacks in the disputed region of Kashmir over which the two countries have fought at least three major wars in the past 65 years.
