YANGON, July 5 ( Xinhua) -- Workers from a foreign-invested garment factory in an industrial zone in Yangon, which was closed down suddenly, have got their deserved salary and compensation through the labor authorities, official media reported Tuesday.
A total of 180 employees from Unipolar garment factory received over 56 million kyats (47,800 U.S. dollars) of compensation due to the factory' sudden shutdown in May after the factory owner disappeared.
The labor authorities intervened for the settlement of the issue by selling off the factory' properties last month to make up for compensation for the jobless workers.
Although each employee received the compensation, most of them are still unemployed, media report said.
Labor authorities urged the workers to seek for new jobs in industrial zones and sign contract with employers to ensure their labor rights.
