RIYADH, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A suicide bomber carried out an attack early Monday near the U.S. consulate general in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, local media reported.
The attacker was killed in the car bombing, and no other deaths were immediately known, according to the Okaz news website.
The Sabq online newspaper said two security officers were injured "as a result of the failed bombing" on July 4, the U.S. Independence Day.
Most of the consulate general staff have reportedly been evacuated after the attack.
According to an AP report, the U.S. officials are aware of reports of the explosion and are working with Saudi authorities to collect more information.
