MADRID, June 29 (Xinhua) -- The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain increased by 24.6 percent in April compared with the same month a year earlier, according to data published Wednesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
According to the INE, a total of 23,607 home mortgages were granted in the fourth month of the year, with the amount of capital loaned rising by 30.9 percent in April year-on-year to 2.557 billion euros (2.832 billion US dollars) and the average value per mortgage increasing by 5.1 percent to 108,354 euros.
On a month-to-month basis, the number of home mortgages increased by 2.7 percent, with the amount of capital loaned rising by 3.2 percent. Meanwhile, in the first four months of the year the number of home mortgages rose by 16.2 percent, with the amount of capital loaned rising by 18.6 percent.
Spain's housing market has been seriously affected by the burst of the housing bubble in 2008 that triggered the financial crisis.
