    自2000年起成为奥运会比赛项目。当跆拳道和铁人三项在2000年悉尼奥运会作为奥运会比赛项目首次亮相时，铁人三项实际上是一种全新的体育项目。尽管跆拳道的起源可以追溯到几千年前，但是铁人三项只兴起于1978年。1974年，铁人三项首次在美国西南部的圣地亚哥举行，而这大都发端于加利福尼亚兴起的慢跑热。这一极限耐力测试要求运动员在三个截然不同的体育项目中都有出色的表现：游泳、骑自行车和跑步。这项体育活动尤其要求极为严格的纪律，因为每个方面都要求有高水平的培训进度。

    Olympic sport since 2000. While taekwondo and triathlon both debuted as the newest Olympic sports at the Sydney 2000 Games, triathlon was literally the newest sport. Although the origins of taekwondo date back thousands of years, the triathlon dates back to 1978. The first triathlon was held in the southwestern United States city of San Diego in 1974, in many ways an outgrowth of the California jogging craze. The ultimate endurance test, it requires athletes to excel at three very different pursuits - swimming, cycling and running. The sport demands particularly intense discipline because each area requires a high-level training schedule.

La première compétition de triathlon s’est déroulée dans le sud-ouest des Etats-Unis à San Diego en 1974, il traduisait une sorte d’engouement frénétique pour le jogging en Californie. C’est l’ultime test d’endurance, qui nécessite des athlètes performants dans trois différentes disciplines : la natation, le cyclisme, et la course. Ce sport exige une discipline de fer car chaque épreuve requière un haut niveau d’entra?nement.
