Papeete
From October 20 to 24, 2015, the Peace Ark carried out a five-day friendship visit to Papeete, capital of French Polynesia. It was the ship’s first visit to the territory.
“We are visiting French Polynesia and holding face-to-face exchanges with the French military. This visit is a true representation of the close ties and good relations between the two armies,” said Long Ling,Consul and Head of Post at the Consulate of the People's Republic of China in Papeete.
Prior to the visit, the destroyer Jinan and frigate Yiyang from China’s 152 Naval Fleet carried out a joint drill with French anti-submarine frigate Latouche-Tréville in waters north of Roscoff in France.
Personnel of the Peace Ark visited the command center, vessel maintenance base and patrol vessel Arago at a French naval base. Personnel from both countries had in-depth discussions on joint combat command, training, and logistics.
To deepen medical exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, medical personnel on the Peace Ark carried out drills with a local hospital and rescue centers on transferring injured from land to a hospital ship for treatment.
At the end of the visit, the Peace Ark and the French navy carried out a joint drill including air rescue, rappelling, transporting injured on deck, joint medical treatment and evacuation. It was the first time the Peace Ark held a joint humanitarian medical rescue drill with the French navy.
