Chinese military voices stern concern over Japan's new defense whitepaper

English.news.cn   2015-07-22 09:57:42

BEIJING, July 21 (ChinaMil) -- China's Ministry of National Defense (MND) has expressed strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to the defense white paper for 2015 approved by the Japanese cabinet on Tuesday.

"Japan's annual defense white has made improper comments on China's justified national defense and military development, maliciously hyped up such issues as the East China Sea, the South China Sea, cyber security, military transparency and so forth, played up the fallacy of the so-called China's military threat and defamed the Chinese armed forces, which is just cliché, the Information Affairs Office of China's MND told the press on Tuesday.

China adheres to the road of peaceful development and pursues a defensive national defense policy.

To strengthen the modernization drive of the national defense and military is the legitimate rights for China as a sovereign state and others have no rights to make irresponsible comments.

It is above reproach for China to carry out relative activities in the waters of the East China Sea under the jurisdiction of China in accordance with international laws and domestic regulations.

Japan is not a country involved in the South China Sea issue, so it should not stir up enmity, sow discord, and jeopardize the regional peace and stability in the South China Sea.

China’s military has unswerving resolution and willingness to safeguard national territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. The Chinese side will continue to conduct reasonable, legitimate and rightful activities in the related waters and air space.

Abe's government tells the world on one hand that it adheres to the path of peaceful development and pursues the exclusive defense policy, on the other hand, it seeks to pass the new security bills, conduct drastic adjustments of Japan's military and security policies and lift ban on the collective self-defense.

All these actions have fully demonstrated the dual character of the foreign policy of the Abe's government, and will make adverse impact on the peace and stability of the Asia-Pacific region, the Chinese Defense Ministry said.

The ministry added that it will conduct further assessment after Japan publishes the full text of its defense whitepaper and make necessary response accordingly.
