BEIJING, June 8 (ChinaMil) -- The graduating cadets of the Langfang Campus of the PLA Nanjing Artillery Academy wrapped up a live-fire tactical drill at a naval training base of the PLA Shenyang Military Area Command (MAC) on June 5, 2015. They were given the chances to launch the HJ-10 and other types of antitank guided-missiles during the drill.
Professor Lu Wei with the Langfang Campus said that the PLA has possessed a family of antitank guided-missiles.
The antitank guided-missile is used to destroy tanks and other armored vehicles. The Langfang Campus of the PLA Nanjing Artillery Academy is the only military academy of the PLA that is specialized in production of commanding officers for antitank guided-missile combat units.
Four types of antitank guided-missiles including the HJ-10 were launched during the drill. The HJ-10 is currently the PLA's most advanced multipurpose antitank guided-missile. It can precisely strike beyond-visual-range targets, such as tanks, permanent defensive works, and helicopters flying at a low altitude in low speed.
It debuted in the "Peace Mission-2014" joint military exercise conducted by troops from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states.
"At present, the antitank guided-missile family of the PLA has formed an armament system of short, medium and long-range missiles with different guidance modes, which can be launched either from a launch vehicle or a warplane," said Lu Wei.
A leading official of the Langfang Campus said that with the change of the operational requirements and the development of armored vehicles, the antitank guided-missiles of the PLA will take the third-generation capital tanks as the mainly targets, and the high-power, far-range, combined guidance, high integration and digitalization, and strong battlefield adaptability will be the main elements of the improved performance of the future antitank guided-missiles.
