BEIJING, May 2 (ChinaMil) -- The security departments of the Chinese military recently joined hands with the public security departments to crack down on the online rumors and information related to the military. Ten people were investigated and punished according to law for fabricating or disseminating online rumors.
For a period of time, some people fabricated and disseminated such military-related rumors as "shocking truth inside the military, power struggle within the military and military protective umbrella for criminal group", and reposted false information from overseas websites on the popular Chinese social media platforms including Weibo, WeChat and BBS, which seriously damaged the image and reputation of the Chinese military and resulted in bad influence.
After collecting evidences through investigations, the public security departments punished 10 people for fabricating and disseminating military-related online rumors by means of administrative detention, education and reprimand. The 10 people candidly confessed to the facts of fabricating and disseminating rumors and regretted their illegal activities.
The relevant military and civilian departments expressed that it is an illegal activity to fabricate and disseminate military-related rumor on the internet and they will keep on investigating and punishing such kind of illegal activity strictly and resolutely in the future. They hoped all netizens would strictly abide by the laws and regulations, consciously surf the internet in a civilized way, and would not fabricate, disseminate and believe rumors, so as to jointly maintain a healthy and orderly network atmosphere.
