99 Series tank
The 99 Series tanks were the PLA’s most advanced.
Much bigger than previous models, the 99 Series carried a 125 mm cannon, high-powered engines and advanced fire control systems. The tank weighed more than 50 tonnes. The extensive use of composite armor greatly improved its defense against the equivalent of the West’s third-generation tanks. It fired shells that can pierce 890mm thick armor at a distance of 2,000 meters. Using depleted uranium armor piercing shells, the 99 Series can pierce 960mm armor. It had a maximum speed of 80km/h.
