80 Series medium-sized tank
The 80 Series firepower, mobility and defense capabilities were greatly improved. The design made its 105mm rifled gun easy to fix in combat. The front deck had a 22-degree angle to enhance protection against armor piercing rounds. The 80 Series was constantly improved from 1981 to 1987. It performed well in extreme environments, such as low temperatures, damp, plateau and desert terrains.
The 80 Series tanks laid the foundation for China’s second-generation tanks, but they were not issued to the army. The 80-Ⅱtank had a better sighting system, and the 85-II a cast turret, a new fire control system and longer cannon.
