KABUL, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have pressed on to clear the militants in restive provinces and killed 27 militants in the latest operations, the country's Interior Ministry said Monday.
"Afghan army, police and personnel of intelligence agency carried out cleanup operations in Kunar, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Zabul and Uruzgan provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 27 armed Taliban militants, wounding 10 and detaining 12 others," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.
They also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without adding if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.
The security forces also defused 31 roadside bombs and landmines recently planted by the militants across the country over the same period, according to the statement.
The Taliban, who ruled the country before they were ousted by a U.S.-led invasion in late 2001, renewed armed insurgency, staging ambush and suicide attacks, killing combatants as well as civilians.
The Taliban has yet to make comments.
