PARIS, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- French troops have destroyed a convoy of al-Qaeda in the Maghreb region (AQIM) in northern Niger, while carrying weapons from Libya to Mali, the presidency office Elysee said on Friday.
"(Last night), the operation helped to seize a significant quantity of weapons and overpower conveyors," the statement said.
As AQIM fighters still pose risk to the security in African countries and the Middle East, French President Francois Hollande ordered French servicemen deployed in the Sahel "to continue tracking down terrorists armed groups."
"Hollande reaffirms France's determination to assume its responsibilities in the fight against the terrorist armed groups that threaten peace and security in Africa and the Middle East", Elysee added.
