051C-type destroyer
The 051C-type destroyer is designated the Luzhou Class by NATO. Two ships of this kind were built: the Shenyang (115) commissioned in 2006 and the Shijiazhuang (116) in 2007.
Compared to the 051B, the 051C’s weaponry and onboard equipment are more advanced. It is equipped with new 100-mm guns as well as close-range 730 guns. However, the biggest upgrade in terms of weaponry is a Riff anti-air missile system imported from Russia, along with an active phased array radar. The ship-based Riff missile originates from Russia’s S-300 anti-air missiles, which are designated SA-N-6 by NATO. The installation of the system greatly enhances the 051C’s anti-air combat capabilities. Another difference between the 051C and 051B is that the 051C has no hangar because the anti-air missile system takes the space. It only has a flight deck for helicopters.
