    052-type

The 052-type was a more advanced destroyer based on foreign technologies. NATO designated it the Luhu Class. In the 1970s and 1980s, China imported advanced shipborne weaponry and equipment, and experimented with them on the 051-type destroyer, giving birth to the 052-type.

The 052-type was the first model that used a gas turbine engine, and it was also the first equipped with a comprehensive combat system. Its high and flat deck design improved navigation. Measuring 148 meters in length and 16 meters in width, it had a standard displacement of 4,200 tonnes and a maximum cruising speed of 31 knots. The on-board weaponry included a set of twin 100-mm naval guns, two sets of twin 37-mm guns and an eight-tube anti-air missile launcher. It also included four sets of anti-submarine missile launchers, as well as torpedo and anti-submarine rocket launchers. The 052-type destroyer boasted comprehensive defenses against air, surface and submarine targets. In later refittings, it was equipped with 16 anti-ship missiles, and other equipment, such as the radar, was also replaced.
