British Royal Navy destroyer HMS Daring concludes visit in China

    SHANGHAI, December 16 (ChinaMil) -- The guided missile destroyer HMS Daring (32) of the British Royal Navy successfully concluded its 4-day-long goodwill visit in Shanghai and left the port of the Shanghai International Passenger Transport Center at noon of December 13, 2013.

    During the visit, Rear Admiral Matthew J. Parr, operations commander of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom, led major officers to visit Vice Admiral Su Zhiqian, commander of the East China Sea Fleet under the Navy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLAN). Both sides held a candid and friendly talk and exchanged views on issues of common concern.

    The British side held an anti-piracy seminar in Shanghai, and the British Royal Navy also held an on-deck reception on the guided missile destroyer HMS Daring (32).

    The officers and men of both the Chinese side and the British side exchanged visit of each other's warships and experienced meals on each other's warships. The British officers and men also visited the Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower, the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center and other scenic spots.

    After finishing the visit, the guided missile destroyer HMS Daring (32) will hold a joint drill with the guided missile frigate "Xuzhou" of the PLAN on such subjects as communication calibration and others in the waters near Yangtze River estuary. This is the first time for the guided missile destroyer HMS Daring (32) to hold a joint drill with the warship of the PLAN.

    Commander Angus Essenhign, captain of the British Royal Navy destroyer HMS Daring (32), expressed at an interview by reporters that: "It is hoped to hold joint drill with the PLAN and learn more from each other." It is learned that the next destination for the British Royal Navy destroyer HMS Daring (32) is Danang of Vietnam.
