前 言
从1931年中华苏维埃共和国临时中央政府宣布成立到1978年十一届三中全会胜利召开，几十年艰难岁月，几代人不懈探索。怀着革命理想主义和革命英雄主义精神的新华摄影人，勇敢地担负起时代赋予的神圣使命和历史责任，积极投身争取中华民族解放伟大事业，主动参与社会主义革命和建设，每当重要历史事件发生，总是义无反顾地置身其中，用手中的镜头，记录一幕幕精彩瞬间，见证这段峥嵘岁月，定格这段辉煌历史，以其权威性、不可替代性和超凡魅力，在新华社报道史上书写了精彩的篇章，在中国新闻摄影史上树起了不朽的丰碑。
当英灵在热血播洒的泥土中安睡，当见证者在匆匆流逝的岁月中老去，面对渐渐远逝的历史，我们在感慨岁月沧桑的同时，满怀敬仰和感恩，从馆藏400多万幅珍贵的历史照片中，辑录80个经典瞬间，制作“新华影廊”的首期图展。“一图胜千言”。透过一个个定格的瞬间，我们可以捕捉那个血与火年代的不懈抗争，追寻共和国艰难探索的前进脚印，聆听照片背后可歌可泣的传奇故事……
历史在承继中焕发活力，今人在求索中迈向未来。我们将坚持一流的、职业化的标准，奉献更多综合性、专题性图片展，努力把“新华影廊”打造成新华社摄影报道的重要展示窗口，使之成为新华人回顾历史、启迪现实、开创未来的重要交流平台。

Preface
From the establishment of the Provisional Central Government of Chinese Soviet Republic in 1931 to the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy in 1978, the photographers of Xinhua News Agency, undertook a hallowed mission and historic responsibilities, and dedicated themselves to recording the liberation of the nation and the prosperity of the country.
Whatever difficulties they faced, generation after generation of Xinhua photographers have never hesitated in their mission. Our photographers witnessed and captured historic moments with their cameras. They made great contributions to the outstanding history of the Xinhua News Agency, and left an everlasting legacy to the history of China’s news photography.
With the passing of our predecessors and witnesses getting ever older, history is flying by. We have carefully selected – with deep reverence and appreciation – 80 timeless moments from more than four million photos in our precious collections to launch the first “Xinhua Gallery” photo exhibition. Our constant refrain is that a picture tells more than thousands of words. Through a photo, we can trace the difficult progression of our republic and hear the legendary stories behind the scene.…
The legacies of history restore our vitality, enabling us to pursue ideals in the future. Xinhua photographers will adhere to world class, professional standards, and undertake more comprehensive, thematic exhibitions. They will make the "Xinhua Gallery" a window to display the work of Xinhua photographers and an important platform to display the past, present and future of the New China.
