Tunisia urges Libya to increase security at main border post   2011-12-02 01:54:13 FeedbackPrintRSS

TUNIS, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia has expressed its "deep concern" over the repeated attacks against its "territorial integrity and security by armed Libyans," the official press agency TAP reported Thursday.

"Tunisia awaits urgent measures to place the Ras El Jedir border point under the responsibility of professional agents including the police, army and customs officials," TAP quoted a Tunisian foreign ministry communique as saying.

Tunisia "understands the exceptional circumstances" that Libya is going through, the communique said, adding that the attacks " must not jeopardize the brotherly relations between the two countries."

The Ras El Jedir border point between the two countries was closed again on Wednesday after an armed Libyan threatened the Tunisian border guards with his weapon.

The Tunisian security personnel manning the border post have denounced the frequency of such incidents and decided to go on strike to protest against the poor security conditions prevailing on the Libyan side of the border post, TAP said.

The border post has been closed a number of times in recent weeks due to the recurrence of such incidents.
