Cape Town named world's second favorite city

CAPE TOWN, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- South African scenic city Cape Town has been named second favorite city in the world at the Telegraph Travel Awards, it was reported on Friday.

New York was chosen as the first favorite city in a survey by British newspaper Telegraph, according to Cape Times.

In August 2011, British newspaper Telegraph opened voting polls and surveyed 23, 000 Telegraph readers on their favorite travel places, experiences and tourism and hospitality service providers.

In the favorite city worldwide category, readers voted for Cape Town which shared second place with Venice.

The Telegraph Travel Awards honor top destinations and companies in categories from Favorite Country Worldwide to Favorite Tour Operator Worldwide and Favorite Travel Website.

Earlier this month, Cape Town was named World Design Capital for 2014 by the International Design Alliance (IDA) Congress, becoming the first African city to win the award.

Cape Town beat Dublin of Ireland and Bilbao of Spain to become the World Design Capital.

The World Design Capital 2014 title will result in a year-long program of design-focused events that will see design used for social, economic and cultural transformation.
