ZANZIBAR, Tanzania, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least 240 bodies had been retrieved and more than 600 passengers rescued by early Monday after a ferry capsized in waters near the popular tourist archipelago of Zanzibar, Tanzania, on Saturday, the national television station reported.

Twelve South African experts arrived at the scene early Monday to help the rescue. But the chances of finding any more survivors were slim some 55 hours after the disaster.

At present, overload is believed to blame for the tragedy.
