CAIRO, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) rejected the resignation submitted by Prime Minister Essam Sharaf Saturday, the Arabic television channel Al Arabiya reported.

The website of government-owned paper al-Ahram said Saturday morning that Essam Sharaf and several of his crisis-group ministers were expected to hand in resignations during a meeting with the SCAF chief Hussein Tantawi, for failing to handle the Friday riots in Cairo. Israel flew its embassador home from Cairo on Saturday after Egyptian protesters stormed the Israeli embassy building on Friday night.

The Egyptian Health Ministry said earlier Saturday that three people were killed and 1,049 injured in the riots.
