SYDNEY, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of public sector workers carrying flags and holding placards gathered in central Sydney on Thursday to join a rally against the New South Wales (NSW) state government's wage policy and job cut plan.
Teachers, nurses, police officers, firefighters, ferry workers and bus drivers were among the rally crowd.
According to the Australian Associated Press, more than 30,000 workers have been marching for an hour as the stream of protesters passed NSW Parliament House on Macquarie Street in Sydney.
Demonstrators are protesting against government plans to cut 5, 000 public sector jobs and impose a 2.5 percent wages cap for public sector workers.
"We said there would be at least 20,000 people here today, it looks like ... there are 30,000 people here today," Unions NSW Secretary Mark Lennon addressed the crowd.
"If the premier had any doubt about the anger of the public sector, all he has to do is look out the window of Parliament House."
