LONDON, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Insurance companies are estimated to pay a total of about 200 million pounds (324 million U.S. dollars) for compensations of damages in the recent riots in Britain, according to the latest statistics provided by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
The compensations will mainly include home insurance, business insurance and motor insurance, ABI Policy Adviser Tim Humpherys told Xinhua on Friday.
The insurers will be responsible for compensations for those who have taken insurance, while those uninsured will also be able to get compensations under the Riot Damages Act, a statute which dates back to 1886, according to Humpherys.
Humpherys underlined Britain's insurers are "capable" of providing compensations to those affected by the recent riots and fixing damages that have been insured.
"This 200 million pounds in terms of this event isn't that big compared to the 2007 flooding which has cost 3 billion pounds," he added.
