ISLAMABAD, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Pakistani parliament was informed on Wednesday that the law enforcement agencies in the country have arrested about 3,143 terrorists during the last three years.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the National Assembly, lower house of the parliament in Pakistan, that the security forces also seized 4,240 arms.
According to the minister, 231 terrorists were arrested in the eastern Punjab province, 145 in southern Sindh, 2,101 in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 343 in southwestern Balochistan, 130 in Islamabad, 106 in northern Gilgit-Baltistan, 80 in tribal regions and five in Kashmir.
The weapons seized included rocket launchers, missiles, silencers, suicidal jackets, bombs, hand grenades, rocket/ missile shells, mines, detonators, dynamites, smoke bombs, anti-aircraft guns and anti-aircraft gun rounds, said the minister.
The minister said that 505 persons were killed and 1,720 injured in terrorist attacks in Punjab during 2009-10 and 2010-11.
