CAIRO, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak left on Friday with his family to Sharm el-Sheikh, accompanied by Lieutenant General Sami Hafez Enan, chief of staff of the Egyptian Army, according to an airport source.

Egypt's army says to support peaceful transition of power
CAIRO, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's military said in a statement on Friday that it supports the peaceful transition of power, according to a statement read out on state television.
The statement, released by the Supreme Council of Egypt's armed forces led by Hussein Tantawi, the commander in chief of the armed forces and minister of defense, said the army is to guarantee the president's pledge to cancel emergency law, legislative amendments and free and fair elections among others. Egypt's Mubarak hands over power to VP without stepping down
CAIRO, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said in a televised speech on Thursday night that he will hand over power to Vice President Omar Suleiman, but will not resign, in response to more than two weeks of mass protests against his 30-year rule.
"According to the constitution, I will shoulder my responsibilities until the country witnesses the stable and peaceful transfer of power in September," Mubarak said. Full story
Egyptian PM to appoint deputy from "wise men": state TV
CAIRO, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleimnan asked Prime Minister Ahmad Shafik to appoint a deputy prime minister from the "Wise Men Committee", state TV reported on Friday.
A group of prominent Egyptian independent figures formed this committee earlier this month, calling itself "Wise Men Committee," and joined the national dialogue with Suleiman and opposition parties, trying to promote a solution to the country's crisis. Full story
Egypt's VP asks protesters to return home
CAIRO, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Egypt's Vice President Omar Suleiman asked protesters to return home and resume work, in his first televised speech late Thursday after President Hosni Mubarak handed over power to him.
"As the president delegates me to maintain all demands, achievements and restore normal life, I need your cooperation," Suleiman said, urging that people should keep "self-restraint". Full story
