JERUSALEM, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- While the world's Jewish population has gradually shrunk in proportion over the past three decades, it has registered a rise of 80,300 people in 2010, according to a report released on Tuesday.

This figure brings the total Jewish population to 13.4 million - one in 510 people - living in dozens of communities across the globe, said Hebrew University of Jerusalem demographer, Prof. Sergio Della Pergola, who authored the report.

While the world's population grew by 1.25 percent since the beginning of the year, the Jewish growth rate remained at 0.6 percent, according to the report, which was co-sponsored by the Jewish People Data Bank at the University of Connecticut and the Jewish Federation of North America.

Most of Jews live in Israel -- more than 5.7 million people -- followed by the United States with 5.3 million.

"Approximately 11 million people accounted for the world's Jewish population at the end of World War II, in which six million Jews were annihilated," Della Pergola told the Yediot Aharonot Hebrew-language daily.

"It took 13 years for this population to grow by a million and an additional 47 years to grow by another million," he said.
