TEHRAN, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said the Islamic Republic and Turkey have potentials to be forerunners of international nuclear disarmament, the local English language satellite Press TV reported on Thursday.
"Iran and Turkey can be flag-bearers of nuclear disarmament in the globe to establish a world free from nuclear weapons," Mottaki said in a meeting with head of Turkish Parliament's Commission for Foreign Relations Murad Marjan in Tehran on Wednesday.
"Turkey has a new view of the international scene" and plays an "effective and influential" role in the region and has a special regional position, said Mottaki, according to the report.
"As two important countries, Iran and Turkey can make major moves in cooperation with each other," he added.
For his part, Murad Marjan said Ankara has repeatedly stressed the significance of dismantling nuclear weapons in the world.
Marjan hailed his country's deep-rooted ties with Iran and said the two friends and neighboring countries should further promote relations due to several commonalities, according to Press TV.
