Haiti's airport closed for hurricane Tomas

SANTO DOMINGO, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) - The airport of Port-au- Prince, Haiti's capital was closed on Friday due to the hurricane Tomas, official sources said.

According to information reaching here from Port-au-Prince, this measure will last 24 hours, as in the last hours Tomas became hurricane of category one, affecting Grand Anse department and the southeast of the country.

The Haitian authorities said that at least one person died after being washed away by the Glace River in Duchiti locality of Grand Anse department.

Meanwhile, communication director of Siglo XXI Consortium, Yolanda Malan told reporters that this measure also affects the flights from American Eagles and Air Caribe airlines operating in Las Americas airport of Dominican Republic.

Also the flights of the airline MAS in Higuero Airport, Dominican Republic were affected for this measure.
